CNIO Job Description
As the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) role varies within healthcare organizations, it is essential to have a standardized job description that can be referenced for needed competencies regardless of specific job title. This document provides recommendations for a C-Suite level CNIO job description including Qualifications and Experience, Key Responsibilities, and Reporting Structure.
Members of the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Executive Engagement Workgroup were asked to complete a survey in regards to their job description at their current organization during February 2016. During the duration of a six-month process, volunteers were split into three subgroups – Qualifications and Experience, Key Responsibilities, and Reporting Structure. Volunteers used the survey as a reference to create the standardized job descriptions document. The final document was then open for discussion amongst the overall Nursing Informatics Executive Workgroup and Nursing Informatics Committee. From there, a finalized document was set in place. For questions, please contact the Informatics Team.
