Connected Health Case Study: Duke Medicine and Remote Patient Monitoring

Duke Medicine conceptually integrates the Duke University Health System, the Duke University School of Medicine, and the Duke University School of Nursing. Duke Medicine is a world class academic medical center and health care system. The health system is comprised of 938 licensed medical beds and accomplishes over 39,000 inpatient discharges and over 1,000,000 outpatient visits over a calendar year. Duke’s enterprise wide EHR installation supports over 300 ambulatory clinics.

Duke Medicine made a decision to abandon a homegrown enterprise EHR system. The organization identified the need for innovation around a commercial off the shelf EHR system with the goals of population health management driving a reason to invest in mHealth and maintain a vendor neutral environment which provides open access to a growing number of consumer focused platforms
