Optional Events

The following sessions that are taking place on the pre-conference day, 14 June 2022, require additional registration. Please see the optional events section during registration.

Telehealth Masterclass
The pandemic heralded a new era for telehealth across the world, when it was often the only option to protect the clinical workforce and keep vulnerable patients safe. Emerging from the crisis, it is essential that telehealth is embedded into mainstream services in a way that enhances – rather than replaces - traditional modalities. Beyond the technology, this session will focus on the workforce skills required to maximise the use of telehealth in a new hybrid approach to care that seeks to achieve the perfect blend of digital and in-person consultation. Expert speakers from across the EU region will examine the skills required from a provider perspective, including softer communication skills, assessment and decision making via virtual consultation. Then in a second session, experts will explore how systems have organised the upskilling of the workforce to bridge digital skills gaps to adapt to new modes of virtual care delivery from an organisational/national level perspective.

Cyber Security Masterclass
The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted health systems to rapidly adjust their processes and workflows. Among other things this has included fast-tracking technology deployments, increasing the number of telehealth consultations, and encouraging employees to work remotely - all of which have opened new doors for hackers. As a result, the number of cyberattacks on health systems around the world dramatically increased during the pandemic. The current crisis in Ukraine is now also exposing health systems in Europe. Disrupted workflows have exposed providers to numerous cybersecurity challenges and threats. In this masterclass, international cybersecurity experts will convene to examine how care organisations have had to update their security strategies to maintain continuity of care while protecting information systems against an increasing number of threats. The experts will also discuss the necessity for these new privacy precautions and security standards to become the new norm.

The HealthTech Network‘s Innovation Forum
Through ideation, co-design, investment, validation, certification,  commercialization and scaling-up, this full-day forum provides health startups and entrepreneurs the guidance they need for success at every step of the innovation cycle.

Advancing Digital Therapeutics in Mental Health: Improving lives and tackling inequalities
The landscape of digital therapeutics (DTx) is evolving rapidly. In this session experts will examine the potential these software-based interventions hold to improve lives, empower patients, and tackle inequalities in mental health within the context of broader digital transformation. Case studies will be shared evidencing the clinical impacts of DTx in depression, anxiety, serious mental illness and protecting the psychological wellbeing of patients with non-communicable disease. A roundtable discussion will explore how DTx can be better integrated into the patient journey, engaging users in co-design and overcoming regulatory barriers to success. What are the complexities around scaling DTx solutions nationally and internationally? How can we define and differentiate DTx? Where to draw the line on regulation and approval of mental health apps? Challenges around adherence and long-term effectiveness of DTx will also be discussed, including a look at gamification/nudging techniques.

Nordic Workshop - Diversity in Health Entrepreneurship
The HIMSS Nordic community welcomes delegates from the Nordic countries to join them for a workshop diving deeper into the Nordic health portals and exploring how these can be leveraged to their full potential. The session will start by reviewing current implementations before moving the focus onto the future of digital health in the Nordics. What steps are being taken in the respective countries to improve the portals and what more needs to be done? We will also look at the impact of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), which is at the core of a unified European strategy for health data and its use for care, public health, research and a more value-based healthcare ecosystem. We will discuss how the EHDS will affect the pre-existing Nordic digital health efforts. There will be an update on the consequences of the EHDS for governments and vendors, before continuing the conversation in a moderated discussion which will invite audience participation.
