Defining What Healthcare Informatics Is and Why Clear Definitions Are Needed

Jul 24, 2018 11:00am - 12:00pm CDT
TIGER Virtual Learning Environment

The term “healthcare informatics” can cause consternation when determining what it oversees and what it does not. Even informatics specialists themselves may have difficulty expressing where their work ends and another’s begins. This webinar will serve as a discussion of what healthcare informatics is, how it works and how it is delineated from partner disciplines such as information technology. Using the TIGER Informatics Definitions document update in June 2018, specific examples will be presented and explored. Presented by Sarah Fletcher, BS, MSN, RN-BC, Doctor of Nursing Practice Student – Informatics, University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify three departments/disciplines with which healthcare informatics works closely and/or is often confused.
  2. Name three sub-categories of healthcare informatics and how these categories vary.
  3. Learn two key definitions from the TIGER Initiative’s Informatics Definitions document update in June 2018.
