Advancements in interoperability have enabled the development of a wide variety of models for health information exchange (HIE). The characteristics of exchange continue to vary by region and market structure, but leveraging of interoperability with clear business strategies in conjunction with targeted public policies are providing a foundation for HIE usability, value and growth.
