Pharmacy informatics is a rapidly evolving and growing field. As the profession of pharmacy progresses, each pharmacist will need to reassess where technology and automation fit into their own and their colleagues’ lives. As medication experts, they play a crucial role in implementing processes involved with therapy management and ensuring patient safety. In this presentation, a group of experienced pharmacists define what pharmacy informatics means to them, their role in the healthcare team, the state of pharmacy informatics education, and potential challenges for this expanding healthcare field. As more workflows include medication management, fellow healthcare informaticians can discover that incorporating pharmacy expertise can be crucial to improving processes and preventing adverse drug events.
