Health IT can be a valuable tool to help enable critical health equity efforts. As part of the Administration’s pursuit of a comprehensive approach to advancing health equity for all, HHS’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is working to advance the use and interoperability of equity and social determinants of health (SDOH) data while operationalizing the concept of “health equity by design” through collaborative efforts.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the role health IT plays in improving health equity and connect how ONC is using “health equity by design” thinking to advance data standards, health IT certification, electronic information exchange and coordination to improve health equity.
- Investigate ways your organization can use policy and pilots to advance health equity related data and standards for interoperability and alignment.
- Assess the importance of early requirements gathering and how to leverage best practices and resources to improve health outcomes for all.
