Technology & the EMR Bring Health Equity to Rural Communities
West Virginia University Health System, a.k.a. WVU Medicine (WVUM) is comprised of 20-member hospitals spanning four states. The system’s anchor facility is the academic medical center, J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, located in Morgantown, WV.
One of our many challenges as a large, complex, rapidly growing health system, is our geography. More than 50% of our hospitals/clinics are in rural areas of WV and surrounding states.
This session will share our approach to ensuring health equity to everyone we serve. Regardless of location, our EMR & technology platform levels the playing field so that WVUM patients in rural areas, being treated at one of our rural facilities, have access to the same level of care as our patients seen at our academic medical center in Morgantown, WV.
