Physicians clearly recognize the power of interoperability. According to a recent athenahealth survey, 94% of 743 practicing physicians say improved connectivity can enhance patient outcomes and 91% say it can improve the physician experience. Yet the healthcare industry continues to face challenges sharing and accessing information – which can have an adverse impact on both providers and patients. Government regulations have moved us along the first few miles of the interoperability journey – but there’s more work to be done to achieve a fully connected healthcare ecosystem. Truly moving the needle toward improved interoperability requires everyone in the healthcare industry to not just view interoperability as government-mandated compliance, but as a means to differentiate your organization through improved physician experiences and better patient outcomes. This panel session will illustrate examples of how specific organizations have applied “intuitive interoperability” innovations and best practices to drive results. Real change occurs when we see government and innovators working together; and forward-thinking companies that not only comply with regulations but build innovation that leans into interoperability.
