Providence is on a journey to simplify and modernize technology to bring services closer to where patients need them. The key to this strategy is adopting secure, scalable, flexible technologies that allow caregivers to work from anywhere. Enter COVID-19 pandemic. While IT transformation was underway, many employees began working from remote locations. The information security strategy, which focused on “work from anywhere securely,” was put to the test. This session addresses how the cybersecurity strategy ultimately positioned Providence well. The biggest challenge came when Providence fended off ransomware actors before they had a chance to launch an attack on its ecosystem. The speakers will discuss how they banded together to defend against a motivated threat actor, what they observed during this attack, and lessons learned for cybersecurity teams. With no organization immune from cyberattacks, this is a lesson in strategy, preparedness, and quick thinking that every system will want to hear.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop cybersecurity strategies that address human/caregiver needs, not just technical needs
  • Identify how to safely ready your organizations for the new landscape of care delivery
