William J. Hayes, M.D., M.B.A. is the Chief Medical Officer at CPSI Dr. Hayes is trained as an Internist and Interventional Cardiologist having begun his medical career practicing medicine in a clinic/hospital-based practice in 1996. Dr. Hayes also has previous physician executive experience in the field of Health Information Technology having worked previously for Cerner. He has been involved in multiple aspects of EHR optimization largely from a clinical healthcare provider perspective. His responsibilities have encompassed being an advocate of the client’s clinical perspectives of EHR usability and functionality, adoption, improvement of end user experiences, new product development, optimal clinical workflow processes, and alignment of EHR products with the needs of healthcare providers, as well as enhancing patient’s safety and the quality of care in the system. Dr. Hayes received his B.S. Degree with Honors from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He earned his M.D. from Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed his residency and Chief Resident Year in Internal Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. He then went on to complete a fellowship and Chief Fellow year in Interventional Cardiology at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, TX. He later earned his M.B.A. from the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Hayes has been a member of the A.C.C. (Fellow), Texas Heart Institute Society, A.M.A., A.M.D.I.S. [Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems] as well as an Executive Committee Member of H.I.M.S.S. – E.H.R.A. [Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society – Electronic Health Record Association] He has served on and been in numerous committees and executive positions during his medical career and has done various forms of healthcare consulting work through his consulting company. He resides in Mobile, AL the site of CPSI’s headquarters.
