Chris Johnson is Vice President, Revenue Cycle Management for Atrium Health, a large, integrated delivery system with 1,400 locations in the Southeast. Johnson has more than 30 years of revenue cycle management experience, including 24 years in revenue cycle leadership roles at Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas Healthcare System). A fellow of HFMA and a 34-year member of the association, Johnson is a recipient of the 2017 Frederick C. Morgan Individual Achievement Award, which honors career-long contributions to HFMA and to the healthcare finance profession. He has served as chair of the HFMA Board of Examiners, chair of the Patient Financial Services Specialty Group, and a member of HFMA’s National Advisory Council. At the regional level, Johnson was Regional Executive for Region 4 in 2005-06. In 2007, he joined HFMA’s Mid-Atlantic Planning Committee, which brings all five chapters of Region 4 together for education and networking, serving as chair in 2009-10 and 2016-17 and again in 2022. Johnson is a recipient of multiple HFMA chapter awards as well, including the Follmer Bronze, Reeves Silver, and Muncie Gold Merit awards and the Founder’s Medal of Honor. He also received the North Carolina Chapter’s John H. Ketner Award in 1999 in recognition of extra effort in time and quality of work toward the betterment of the chapter. In 2019, he received the North Carolina Chapter’s Memorial Award, the North Carolina Chapter’s highest award for volunteer service. Johnson received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Montreat College.
