Howard P Levy, MD, PhD, is the Chief Medical Information Officer at Maryland Primary Care Physicians. Up until March 2023, he was an Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. He started working in clinical informatics in 2011, when he served as the clinical lead for implementation of ambulatory electronic prescribing at Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM). Dr. Levy is passionate about utilizing electronic health records (EHR) and other health information technology to maximize safety, patient engagement, interoperability, and user efficiency. He was Director of Health IT Optimization and User Wellbeing for the Johns Hopkins Department of Medicine and is a certified Epic Physician Builder. He was the physician lead for JHM’s compliance with the 21st Century Cures Act’s Information Blocking rule and the ambulatory physician lead for JHM’s project to achieve HIMSS EMRAM and O-EMRAM stage 6 and stage 7 validation. He co-chaired the JHM committee that oversees the patient portal and other patient-facing information. Dr. Levy sits on several workgroups and committees that advise Epic Corporation on design of their EHR product, and chairs Epic’s Genetics Specialty Steering Board and Epic’s Genomics Brain Trust.
