Kathryn Kuttler is the Advanced Decision Support Director at Intermountain Healthcare with Biomedical Informatics (PhD) expertise. She is responsible for all the Decision Support within the Intermountain Healthcare clinical information systems. Her team creates clinical systems' decision support, to facilitate innovation and research in a Learning Healthcare System. They build novel systems which will improve clinical care. The Advanced Decision Support team incorporates Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing(NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) into the clinical workflow to improve clinical care and their associated outcomes. Recently, her efforts have focused on constructing environments to support applied informatics research by leading the COVID-19 Mass Vaccination technical team and co-leading the COVID-19 testing technical team at Intermountain Healthcare. Teams developed and implemented cross-platform innovations and methods required during the COVID-19 pandemic. They created an efficient and highly scalable end-to-end testing, vaccination and reporting workflow. Over the last 20 years, Dr. Kuttler has worked with Clinicians, Principle Investigators, subject matter experts and engineers on local, national and multi-organizational research grants and various operational initiatives. Dr. Kuttler leads the technical work on the real-time interoperable clinical decision support platform. She worked with technical teams to design the interoperable architecture and create the Proof of Concept. This application accesses structured data from the electronic medical record using HL7’s Fast Healthcare Interoperability (FHIR) standards. These data combine with information generated from chest imaging studies using artificial intelligence-based tools. The resulting clinical information is processed in a Bayesian network to support patient diagnoses.
