HIMSS Nordic Community
The HIMSS Nordic Community provides Nordic healthcare resources specifically tailored for health information and technology professionals from both the public and private sectors in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The longest-standing HIMSS Europe Community, established in 2006, it regularly organises a number of events and workshops to address current needs and issues in the Nordic nations.
The community convenes at conferences, workshops and networking events, and also prepares presentations, panel discussions and webinars, and organises hospital tours. Members can take advantage of special offers and packages with invitations to HIMSS events connecting the community globally with peers not only in Europe but also in the U.S., the Middle East and Asia.
The Nordic Community aims to promote and nurture collaboration among all five Nordic countries in order to help support an integrated health system at the regional level, a vision it shares with the Nordic Council of Ministers. The community has been instrumental in creating momentum in the Nordics to step up as a region in terms of interoperability, especially in light of the EU Strategy for a Pan-European exchange of health data coming to the surface in 2018. Consequently, members have initiated the Nordic Interoperability Project—an initiative that has taken off on its own and is now supported by major stakeholders in all Nordic countries. The Nordic Interoperability Project emphasises the importance of making patient data available at the point of care despite borders or boundaries, which is a key driver in helping to ensure consistent and appropriate care for population health.
With such important strides taken in its recent history, the HIMSS Nordic Community continues to make its mark on Nordic healthcare and health information and technology.
