Technology convergence is a broad term more familiar to industries outside healthcare than within healthcare. Generally, technology convergence is defined as the merging of existing technologies into new forms that bring together different types of media and applications.  The most obvious example is the smartphone, which has expanded beyond simple voice communications to become a personal music player, digital camera, video player and text message system.  The Internet is the most widespread example of technological convergence in its aggregation of entertainment technologies such as video, TV, books and games.
