- As result of using clinical decision support best practice alerts and a new EHR-enabled workflow, Fremont Family Care saw a significant increase in the percentage of patients who had received appropriate preventative care, including doubling the number of at risk patients who received colonoscopies, mammograms, and flu vaccine in a two year time period. - HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence winner Lakeland Healthcare used clinical decision support and a standardardized admission ordersets to virtually eliminate hospital acquired Venous Thromboembolism and significantly reduce surgically acquired infections since 2013. HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence winner UC Davis Health Systemleveraged a specified order set triggered by the EHR if a patient showed abnormal vital signs or an increase in lactic acid, As result UC Davis saved the lives of over 200 sepsis patients in a three year time span.owered Sepsis Mortality from 47% to 21% (saving over 200 lives) in 3 years. - HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence winner Texas Health Resources launched a program enabled by EHR based CDS interventions to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE), one of the leading causes of preventable hospital deaths. THR saw immediate change in practices, and by 2011, post-operative VTE rates were less than half of pre-program rates. Lowering post-op VTE rates has helped THR to satisfy Surgical Care Improvement Project requirements, and to meet measures set forth by CMS.View THR's Clinical Decision Support case study.
- HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence winner Mount Sinai Medical Centerleveraged Clinical Decision Support functionality to provide predictive screening alerts relating to many areas including early identification of sepsis cases. The CDS algorithm evaluates eight criteria of sepsis infection. The best practice alert fires if any three of the eight variables are present, alerting clinicians that the patient has been screened positive for a possible sepsis infection. - Hawaii Pacific Health leveraged EHR-enabled clinical decision alerts, electronic dashboards, and health maintenance alerts to significantly reduce occurances of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) and Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI). CDS Consortium (CDSC): The CDS Consortium is an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Contract. The goal of the CDS Consortium is to assess, define, demonstrate, and evaluate best practices for knowledge management and clinical decision support in healthcare information technology at scale - across multiple ambulatory care settings and EHR technology platforms. eRecommendations: Funded by AHRQ, eRecommendations is a project with the purpose of leveraging quality measurement standards and EHR Integration to support widely useful structured recommendations for CDS rules Video - Osheroff on AHRQ's Key Recommendations Project - Dr Jerry Osheroff, Chief Informatics Officer, Thomson Reuters, discusses the ONC/AHRQ eRecommendations Project which is providing formal approaches and templates for structuring and codifying clinical guidance in clinical recommendations to facilitate the development of CDS.
