Every parent wishes to have a happy, healthy child. Sadly we know that wish doesn’t always come true. Children with serious or life-threatening medical conditions often require specialized, comprehensive care. The mantra for anyone who works in the field of pediatric healthcare is, ‘Children are not little adults.’ Seriously ill children have a vast majority of special needs, including the size of the medical equipment, types of supplies, and extra care from a variety of providers. The old-fashioned fee-for service model does not fit with the level of holistic care that is required to help these children return to or maintain health.
Welcome to STEPS to Value, a podcast that explores the intersection of people, processes & technology in healthcare as the industry moves towards a value-focused model. In this episode we will talk to Brenda Wolf, President and CEO of La Rabida Children’s Hospital about how the hospital has become a ‘medical hub’ to ensure that children and their families receive all of the physical, emotional and educational support they need, not just during a doctor’s visit but throughout their young lives.
