Quality and Price Reporting in Healthcare

A collaboration effort between the HIMSS Financial Systems Steering Committee and the Patient Safety & Quality Outcomes Committee (PS&QO) resulted in the Leveraging Health Information Technology in Achieving Price and Quality Reporting white paper. This white paper provides an environmental scan of current quality and price reporting initiatives including an unbiased description of each identified initiative with an examination of how IT is leveraged. The initiatives examined include those at the federal, regional, state and local levels. This white paper provides the foundation for the future HIMSS "Performance Improvement Hub.” This work group hopes the paper will provide insight immediately to the HIMSS membership in this area and facilitate moving the quality and price reporting discussion forward and exploring ways technology can be leveraged in these reporting efforts over the coming years.

This fact sheet provides examples of ongoing efforts to demonstrate the inverse relationship of quality care and cost.
