Milisa Rizer, MD, MPH, CPHIMS, FHIMSS is the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Rizer received her undergraduate degree in nursing from The Ohio State University and her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. She completed a residency program in Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC and her Master’s Degree in Public Health, in Health Administration and Policy from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
Dr. Rizer has served on the faculties at Georgetown University, Washington DC, as well as the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio and the University of Cincinnati before joining Ohio State in 2002 as the Vice-Chair for clinical services in the Department of Family Medicine. She was appointed CMIO in May of 2012. She was the first CMIO for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, board certified in family medicine and clinical informatics.
She is a HIMSS fellow and recognized as CPHIMSS certified. She has traveled around the world representing OSU and HIMSS, evaluating the information technology in hospitals and determining their ability to meet HIMSS stage 7 standards. She was recently chosen by her physician colleagues in Epic partnering institution as the Epic Physician of the year for 2018. She has presented over 26 times at Epic user group and five of her presentations were outstanding enough to be identified as enduring material and were requested to be repeated at subsequent meetings. She also serves on the Epic Physician Advisory Committee and was recently elected to the Care Everywhere advisory board which is the board that directs interoperability at Epic.
Dr. Rizer serves on the Farmers Bank and Savings Company Board in Pomeroy, Ohio. She enjoys traveling and loves Buckeye Football.
