Monitor for System Responses, Timeliness, Fixes and Patches
Once the patient portal or other technology is launched, ongoing monitoring should take place, just as it would for any other health IT application. Monitoring is needed for system response time, frequency and reliability of data updates and tests from outside of the health system to evaluate the patient experience of the application. Regular testing for mobile apps should also be included.
The installation of patches and bug fixes are necessary as part of ongoing maintenance of these applications. These may come from the application vendor or be identified in-house. In each case, the critical nature of the patch or fix should be evaluated and then scheduled through the IT change management process.
