Prioritizing Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity was also a critical focus at HIMSS25, as healthcare organizations continue to face an evolving landscape of cyber threats. Lee Kim, HIMSS Senior Principal of Cybersecurity and Privacy, provided expert insights into the state of healthcare cybersecurity, emphasizing the need for a proactive approach to safeguarding patient data and critical infrastructure.

One of the most pressing concerns discussed at the conference was the looming threat of medical device cyberattacks. In an interview with DataBreachToday, Kim warned of the potential “nightmare scenarios” where compromised medical devices could put patient safety at risk.

Cybersecurity concerns and the threat of cyberattacks on health systems were also a major topic of discussion during HIMSS TV interviews.

HIMSS President & CEO Hal Wolf hosted an open forum with media members to answer questions on the key trends and scenario planning that is taking place across the global health eco-system. As reported by Health Data Management, Wolf discussed growing financial concerns from health systems, stated that “what you can do is scenario-plan—understand whether the cuts will be moderate or severe and identify the most strategic investments to make now, particularly in digital health.”

Wolf urged health IT leaders to strengthen their cybersecurity resilience, telling Health IT Answers that it is a “top investment priority,” while also highlighting industry wide concerns about funding cuts, according to Healthcare Finance News.
