California Leverages Health Information and Technology in Disaster Response

The California Health Information Exchange (CAHIE), along with the Office of the National Coordiantor for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the California Emergency Medical Services Authority, developed a disaster response health information portal called the Patient Unified Lookup System for Emergencies (PULSE). This portal provides licensed healthcare professional volunteers with access to critical electronic health information during a major disaster. The Sequoia Project, along with eHealth Exchange, CareQuality and several exchange partners in California have been assisting with the PULSE program.
