CMS Extends Deadline for Medicare EHR Incentive Program

On Monday, February 6, 2017, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a Meaningful Use requirement deadline extension for providers participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. The deadline has changed from February 28, 2017, to March 13, 2017 allowing two additional weeks for attestation. In order to avoid a negative payment adjustment in 2018, eligible providers, hospitals, and critical access hospitals must attest to the 2016 requirement by the March 13 deadline.

In January 2017, a similar extension was announced for hospitals submitting eCQM data through the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting program and the Meaningful Use program. The deadline was changed from February 28, 2017, to March 13, 2017.
