FAQs

HIMSS is hearing from people around the world about how to best test, triage and treat their communities. These lessons and best practices are most valuable if they are shared and discussed broadly among healthcare professionals. 

Anyone is welcome to submit solutions. We advise you to post only essential strategies, operating plans and technologies that have proven successful for your organization or community to date. We ask that any submission be rooted in core organization strategy, tied to early outcomes or metrics if possible, and not anecdotal. During this pivotal time it is imperative that reliable information be provided globally to ensure the development and implementation of effective response strategies. If possible, attach subsequent materials to further outline the above.

There is no limit to the number of submissions an individual or organization may post; with that being said, please be mindful of the additional value each subsequent submission may provide.

Each submitter will be asked to provide the following information: name, role, organization, email, brief description of the solution that has proven successful, and an attachment (if applicable). To promote accountability and connection during this period of uncertainty, all posts and comments will remain public.

An email notification will be sent to you when any comment is made on your submissions. This setting can be change in your “My Account’ page.

A news feed of all submissions is available on the main page of this portal. If you find a submission helpful, click the up arrow on the left side of it. Users can sort the feed by those with the most votes, so help promote those that are most meaningful. There is no limit to the number of votes and comments you can make, however for a given submission, your vote will only count once.

Consider sorting by tag (#Triage, #Test, #Treat, #Social Distancing/Non-Clinical Practices, #Clinical Environment Practices, #Other) based on what you or your organization is looking for. To refine your search criteria, consider sorting by number of votes or comments as a measure of others’ engagement.

Triage?

We use #triage to specify strategies, processes and techniques for most efficiently distributing resources in order to maximize outcomes and reduce risks for new, old and potential patients.

Test?

We use #test for any approach related to the detection of COVID-19. This could include but is not limited to strategies, policies, technologies, heuristic measures, medical diagnostics and PPE used in testing for the contraction of the virus, as well as any short- and long-term effects that may occur after curing the patient.

Treat?

We use #treat for methods and techniques, inclusive of clinical practice guidelines, that can be used to help reduce symptoms, cure or expedite the recovery of any ailment related to COVID-19.

Social Distancing/Non-Clinical Practices?

The CDC defines social distancing as “remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.” We are interested in gathering information about similar non-clinical practices that can help reduce the economic, societal and health-related damage caused by COVID-19.

Clinical Environment Practices?

Clinical environment practices include any relevant techniques, processes and systems used in medical settings that minimize risks to patients and medical personnel while maximizing patient outcomes.
