Focus on Long-Term Good Health with Free Immunization Capability Testing

By two years of age, over 20% of the children in the U.S. have typically seen more than one healthcare provider, resulting in scattered medical records, according to the CDC.

Three organizations working together - CNI Advantage, HIMSS and ICSA Labs, now invite health IT vendors to test their immunization-capable products in the Immunization Integration Program [IIP] supported by CDC. Participation is free of charge.

“Immunization records are a vital component of a child’s digital medical record and belong in health IT systems used by healthcare providers across the country,” said Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, vice president, informatics, HIMSS North America. “The decisions made now to integrate immunization records with health IT systems will help saves lives and improve health for many generations. This testing and recognition program is an important step toward achieving this outcome.”

Vendors who participate in this program will demonstrate that their product includes software capabilities that address provider and patient reminders and up-to-date demographics and immunization information. This program helps clinicians and immunization providers improve immunization rates, thus contributing to

  • better health outcomes,
  • reduction in healthcare costs, and
  • higher levels of clinician productivity.

Testing also covers workflows focused on real-life scenarios, which clinicians and other stakeholders developed using specific immunization-related capabilities that have been tested and are available for review.

Organizations fulfilling the IIP testing requirements, as identified in the program guidelines, qualify for recognition in related IPP materials, on the HIMSS website, and through media and social media outreach.
