Q. Why did HIMSS acquire the Government Health IT multi-media products?
A.
HIMSS acquired the Government Health IT multi-media products to expand its reach and further its educational initiatives with the federal health sector.  As noted in the news release, the decision to purchase this suite of products focused on three strategic variables.

  • New information and publishing opportunities
  • Resource for information and knowledge in Washington, D.C.
  • Expanded outreach to the federal health sector

Q. What exactly did HIMSS purchase from 1105 Media?
A.  HIMSS acquired Government Health IT magazine, a print and online publication.  The Society also purchased the related educational conferences, a health IT pavilion, webinars and Web site from 11095 Media, Inc.

Q. What was the purchase price?
A.  HIMSS cannot divulge the purchase price, as advised by its legal counsel.

Q. Did HIMSS acquire new staff with this purchase?
A.  HIMSS acquired one new staff member with this acquisition. Paul McCloskey will continue as editor of Government Health IT magazine.  Reporter Nancy Ferris retired as planned at the end of 2008.  

Q. Who at HIMSS is managing this effort?
A.  Fran Perveiler, HIMSS Vice President, Communications, is managing the magazine and its staff.  She is coordinating activities with HIMSS content experts and government relations staff in the HIMSS Arlington, Va. Office.

Q.  Will HIMSS hire new staff to work on the magazine or be part of these new  initiatives?
A.  HIMSS will explore the staffing needs for the magazine and other new initiatives that are part of this acquisition.

Q. How will the editorial content be managed for Government Health IT magazine?
A.  The magazine will function as an independent trade publication with editorial content  based on news in the federal health sector. Some content may be HIMSS-specific but will be identified as such.  

Q. Will HIMSS hold the annual Government Health IT conference in June 2009?
A. HIMSS will hold the annual Government Health IT conference in Washington, D.C. in June 2009. More information will be available once the conference speakers and program have been confirmed.
