Governor McAuliffe Announces New Virginia Chief Information Officer

On May 26, 2015 Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Nelson Moe as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Nelson Moe is currently the Chief Information Officer for the United States House of Representatives. Nelson Moe’s role with the House of Representative was to provide expertise in incorporating an information technology vision; enterprise strategic planning, and cybersecurity operations along with IT services and project management for the members, leadership and committees and staff.  Before that Nelson Moe completed a career in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear submarine officer and then worked in the private sector for several small IT startups. He also advises several small IT/cyber companies on service development and is currently a contributor to the Institute of Critical Infrastructure Technology (ICIT) and the Government Technology Research Alliance (GTRA). Nelson Moe will begin his new role as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Commonwealth of Virginia on June 8th. Nelson Moe will oversee the Virginia Information Technology Agency(VITA) , Nelson plans on further modernizing the state’s IT program so taxpayers get the best service and greatest value possible for their dollar.
