Hawaii Pacific Health Receives 2016 HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award

Hawai‘i Pacific Health, one of the largest healthcare providers in Hawaii, has been named a 2016 HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award recipient. Hawaii Pacific Health is only the second two-time winner of the Davies Enterprise Award of Excellence since the program’s inception.

Since 1994, the HIMSS Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence has recognized outstanding achievement of organizations that have utilized health information technology (IT) to substantially improve patient outcomes while achieving a return on investment.

Hawaii Pacific Health (HPH) is committed to providing the highest quality medical care and service to the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Region.  The nonprofit healthcare network operates four medical centers and 70 outpatient clinics and service sites across Hawaii. In addition, the health system has leading strategic initiatives in women’s health, pediatric care, cardiovascular services, cancer care and bone and joint services.

HPH submitted three case studies demonstrating how  the system has leveraged health IT to improve patient and business outcomes.

“HPH is receiving the Davies Award from HIMSS for their work in reducing sepsis mortality and length of stay (and saving nearly 300 lives), significantly improving population health outcomes and patient access, and reducing complications due to hypoglycemia through the use of health IT,” said Jonathan French, senior director, health information systems, HIMSS North America.

“Substantially improving patient outcomes through health IT is only possible with a special kind of teamwork and trust between Physicians, Clinical Staff and Administration,” said Steve Robertson, executive vice president and chief information officer of Hawaii Pacific Health. “To win this honor a second time in five years is humbling, but it does validate how powerful these partnerships are in transforming patient care and creating a healthier Hawaii.”

“As a two-time Davies Award winner, HPH clearly exemplifies how collaborative teamwork, effective planning and use of health IT, and modified clinical process changes when warranted, can result in sustainable improvements in patient outcomes.  And that is truly the hallmark of the Davies Award,” said Janis Curtis, Associate Director of Clinical Data Research Networks (CDRNs) in the Office of Research Informatics at Duke Health and chair of the HIMSS Davies Enterprise Award Committee. “The Davies Committee and HIMSS congratulate the team members of Hawaii Pacific Health on receiving their second Davies Award and improving the health outcomes of Hawaiians.”

Hawaii Pacific Health will be recognized at the 2017 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, February 19-23rd in Orlando, FL.
