HIMSS mobilizes its members to successfully accomplish multiple levels of advocacy activities, fueled by each member’s passion and experience. Chapters are encouraged to designate one or more of their members to act as a “lead” for advocacy events, campaigns and outreach initiatives. Generally given the title “Chapter Advocate,” these leaders are also often identified as Advocacy Chairs, Advocacy Co-Chairs or Advocacy Liaison.
Chapter Advocates across the United States connect with one another through the Chapter Advocacy Roundtable (CAR). The CAR is open to any HIMSS Member interested in advocacy and willing to volunteer their time to support HIMSS advocacy initiatives at the grassroots level. Through monthly conference calls, meetings and annual events, the CAR provides a networking and educational opportunity for Chapter Advocates.
CAR Offsite Training
Once a year, Chapter Advocates have an opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. to attend an off-site training seminar and participate in the HIMSS Policy Summit. This year’s annual Chapter Advocacy Roundtable training will take place on September 18, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Join us for an introduction to leadership, a few words from our State Legislator of the Year, reviewing advocacy plans, covering available tools, and focus groups to further drill down into areas which best suited your interests. Please click here to register for the Policy Summit.
