HIMSS Has Something for Everyone

As we go to press HIMSS is deep in the throes of its biggest event of the year, Annual Conference.   Already we supported a CPHIMS Review Course, several pre-conference symposia and workshops, multiple receptions, forums and a multitude of educational sessions. And we’re just getting started!

HIMSS Health Business Solution’s (HBS) program will kick off on Tuesday with a breakfast panel discussion regarding common pain points associated with medical prior authorizations.  Join us to hear what health plans, benefit managers, and several HIMSS strategic business partners are doing about those pain points, and how they plan to coordinate efforts going forward.  The event is sponsored by eviCore Health, and will take place from 7:00 – 8:00a.m. in room W209B.

If 7:00 a.m. is too early for you, check out our HIMSS Spot (located in Lobby C) presentations at 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.  At 1:00, members of the HIMSS Alternative Payment Model Infrastructure (APMI) task force will talk about what HIMSS is doing to assist provider organizations making the move from fee-for-service to pay-for-value ensure they have the infrastructure in place to set themselves up for success.  Immediately following this presentation, our Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) task force will discuss the work HIMSS is doing to help move the industry toward the Patient Financial Experience of the Future.  After that, head over to the Interoperability Showcase to check out the first ever Revenue Cycle Management interoperability vignette, where you’ll find that the future is actually now.

Wrap up the day with a return to HIMSS Spot to recognize the many contributions of our HIMSS ICD-10 task force members who devoted countless hours and phenomenal expertise to produce content, tools and resources for the use of the healthcare community to prepare itself for a successful transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10.  Coffee and cupcakes served.

Wednesday brings an overview of our HBS Committee in HIMSS Spot from 8:30 – 9:30.  Committee chair Penny Osman Bahr will be joined by each of our task force chairs for a review of all the great things happening in this content area.  RCM task force member Jonathan Wiik will be in the Clinical & Business Intelligence Knowledge Center from 9:30-10:00 with great insights on how to leverage technology for financial patient engagement.   From 1:00 – 1:30, RCM task force member Lisa Tonkinson will talk about the findings of the RCM task force provider-focused analysis of the health IT functionality required to realize the task force’s vision for the Patient Financial Experience of the Future.

For those unable to join us in Orlando, but interested in hearing what all the experts had to say, materials from each session will be available through the HIMSS Learning Center approximately six weeks after conference.  Click on the Conference Presentations link on their site to learn more.

Regardless of whether you are able to join us at HIMSS17, we hope you’ll consider joining one of our task forces or applying to be a Committee member.  Joining a task force is easy – all you need is an active HIMSS membership and a willing attitude.  Requirements for Committee volunteers are a little more involved.  Visit our webpage for all the details.

Whether you’re looking to improve your healthcare IT IQ, advance revenue cycle management, or expand your participation, HIMSS has what you’re looking for.  We can’t wait for you to join us!
