Comment to VA from HIMSS on Consent for Release of Medical Records

In a March 20, 2018 letter to Secretary David Shulkin, MD, HIMSS offered comments to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in response to the Consent for Release of VA Medical Records Proposed Rule. In the letter, HIMSS offers support for the proposed changes to consent requirements to improve VA’s ability to share patient data with Health Information Exchange community partners with the goal of ensuring better-informed care delivery.  HIMSS also encourages VA to continue a public dialogue on regulatory changes to enhance exchange of health information within the VA and across the community.
