Children’s National Health System Selected as 2017 HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award Recipient
CHICAGO (October 6, 2017) – For their accomplishments on improving the health and lives of children with health information technology, HIMSS recognizes Children’s National Health System with the prestigious 2017 HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award.
The HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence
Since 1994, the HIMSS Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence has recognized outstanding achievement in the generating improvement of care outcomes and return on investment with health information technology. The Davies Award program promotes EHR-enabled improvement in patient outcomes through sharing best practices and lessons learned on implementation strategies, workflow design, analytics, and change management.

Children’s National Health System Serving Children with Best Use of IT
With health information technology (HIT) as the catalyst for improving care, the Children’s National Health System achieved the following milestones during its successful journey of EHR implementation.
• Innovative unit-based quality boards bring real-time quality and safety information to the healthcare teams and family members.
• By incorporating of CT scan decision support rules into the electronic health record (EHR), Children’s National Health System obtained a 44% CT scan reduction and a yearly cost reduction of $875,144.
• Transition from dictation/transcription-driven notes to electronic template and voice recognition notes in ambulatory specialty clinics allowed for the immediate availability of notes to all care providers and a significant reduction in transcription costs.
