HIMSS is always a highlight of my professional year—ever since my first HIMSS back in 1995 in San Antonio TX. HIMSS17 offers more than 300 education sessions including keynotes from nationally renowned speakers, thought leader sessions from the brightest minds in health IT, facilitated roundtable discussions and e-sessions.
The social and education events can inform you about new trends that your organization may be facing in the coming months and help you with planning – especially how to avoid the pitfalls others may have already discovered the hard way. A few years ago, everyone was talking “implementation” and now we are talking “population health and analytics.” Learning about these trends can help you decide if you need to start building new skills to avoid redundancy in the coming years.
The following events are an added benefit for any HIMSS attendee interested in building his or her professional network and getting the most out of the HIMSS experience:
Preconference Symposia: Get a focused start by attending one of the offerings that fit your professional networking and educational interests.
This symposium brings together industry experts who discuss strategies for moving beyond implementation to realize optimization Experience interactive sessions on the power of analytics for clinical decision support, using telehealth to manage patient populations, implications of biomedical device integration, and exploring the technologies that will shape the future of health and care.
The current healthcare environment is encumbered by regulatory issues and IT systems operating as data collection tools. Physicians must look for ways to unlock the value of the systems they use and lead the charge to change through initiatives aimed at improving outcomes.
Community Events: Community events allow you to connect with like-minded peers in a collaborative environment that fosters information sharing and expands your professional network.
Women in Health IT Networking Reception: For my female colleagues, get to know the stellar women in Health IT at this must-attend networking event.
Don’t miss must-see locations on the HIMSS17 exhibit floor! There is a lot to be gained from your HIMSS experience so ENJOY! (Article updated from CII 01/2016)
