Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) and Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum launched a state-wide patient engagement campaign on August 1st; the “Your Health in Your Hands” campaign will educate Louisiana residents on how to use Health Information Technology (HIT) tools.
As part of the campaign the www.makemyhealth.me website was created for Louisiana residents, giving them have access to information and resources pertaining to health IT tools such as electronic health records (EHRs), patient portals, and a statewide health information exchange (HIE). The website will contain information about patient rights, medical records and educate users on how to use their records to improve their own health.
“The ‘Your Health in Your Hands’ campaign is another tool we’re using to make sure Louisianans know that health IT improvements can directly improve their quality of care,” DHH Secretary Kathy Kliebert said in a statement. “Louisiana is one the country’s leaders in health IT and this campaign keeps that trend going.”
“This is something that no other state has attempted yet,” Cindy Munn, CEO of the Quality Forum, said. “We are very excited and proud that Louisiana is leading the way and receiving so much national attention for these efforts.”
According to research, patients who are engaged in their own care have better outcomes and lowered costs. For more information on Louisiana’s Health IT campaign initiatives click here.
