After a vote from their peers, three HIMSS individual members joined the HIMSS North America (HNA) Nominating Committee, serving a two-year term from Jan. 1, 2017, to Dec. 31, 2018.
- Leigh Burchell, FHIMSS, vice president, policy and government affairs, Allscripts
- Mark Segal, PhD, FHIMSS, vice president government and industry affairs, GE Healthcare Digital
- Joe Miller, MA, FHIMSS, director of strategy and innovation, AmeriHealth Caritas
“Results from the 2016 HIMSS North America Nominating Committee election have created an exceptional committee, thus ensuring strong future governance of HNA. Congratulations to these three new members who began their terms on Jan. 1 and contribute time and expertise to help improve health and healthcare with the best use of IT,” said Beth Casey Halley, RN, MBA, FHIMSS, former chair, HNA Nominating Committee, and vice chair, HNA Board of Directors. Halley is a principal advisor with The MITRE Corporation.
Halley served until Dec. 31, 2016, as the HIMSS North America Nominating Committee Chair, a role she fulfills as vice chair of the board. John Kansky, MSE, MBA, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, current vice chair-elect of the HNA board, became the nominating committee chair on Jan. 1. He is president and CEO, Indiana Health Information Exchange.
“HIMSS is the critical organization for the future of healthcare digital initiatives. It has a tradition of terrific leadership. Participating on the nominating committee offers an opportunity to give back to the association that has done so much for our industry, our nation, providers and patients, and for me personally,” said Segal.
The HIMSS North America Nominating Committee creates the slate of candidates for both the nominating committee and board of directors. This includes soliciting, interviewing and evaluating eligible candidates – a crucial component to driving the mission of HIMSS. For the annual election, the current HIMSS North America Nominating Committee creates a slate of six qualified candidates for three elected nominating committee positions voted on by all eligible voting members of the organization for the upcoming term.
“I’ve gotten real value out of the work I’ve done with HIMSS to date, because it brings stakeholders together for conversations that don’t always take place otherwise,” said Burchell. “The Nominating Committee is an interesting opportunity, because the group shapes HIMSS North America’s larger strategy by ensuring that voices from across the industry continue to be heard in leadership positions.”
“I’m excited to help grow the HIMSS North America leadership position, as our industry faces an unprecedented period of technology-driven disruption, political change and opportunity to transform healthcare,” said Miller.
