The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) announced the appointment of Rebecca Freeman, RN, as its new Chief Nursing Officer. Freeman will spearhead nursing outreach in ONC’s Office of Clinical Quality and Safety to include development of initiatives focused on health IT enabled nursing practice and research.
Prior to joining ONC, Freeman was the Assistant Vice President and Epic National Nurse Champion at the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) where she led the strategic and tactical planning, development, and deployment of enterprise-wide Epic software. Prior to HCA, Freeman served as the chief nursing information officer and manager of the nursing informatics program at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is also an executive nurse fellow at the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. Freeman holds a degree in nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina, a BS is psychology and philosophy from the College of Charleston, and a PhD from the Medical University of South Carolina.
In addition to her professional experience, Freeman is also a current member of the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Committee and past co-chair of the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Executives Workgroup.
