One hundred and fifteen Americans die each day from an opioid-related drug overdose. HIMSS recognizes the opioid epidemic requires urgent attention and that health information and technology play a critical role in combatting this crisis.
The HIMSS state government and federal affairs teams will host the first of a series of three webinars, Leveraging Health Information and Technology to Mitigate the Opioid Crisis: Policy Landscape and Steps Forward, on Monday, June 4 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm EDT. The first webinar serves as an overview of the opioid crisis and the role health information and technology play at the state and federal levels in response.
Governor Jim Geringer, former governor of Wyoming, and co-chair of the HIMSS State Advisory Roundtable will moderate this webinar. Featured speakers include:
- Governor Jim Douglas, former governor of Vermont; advisor, President Trump’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, co-chair, HIMSS State Advisory Roundtable
- Afton Wagner, Pharm.D., senior manager, federal affairs and pharmacy initiatives, HIMSS
- Kevin C. Borcher, Pharm.D., Prescription Drug Monitoring Program program director, Nebraska Health Information Initiative
In the next two webinars, we will take a deeper dive into the role health information and technology play and could play in the future to mitigate the opioid epidemic.
