Solving Ambulatory Care Challenges with Electronic Health Records

Electronic health records offer benefits to both provider and patient, such as ease of communication and access to education. But the ambulatory setting poses some unique challenges, explained Jonathan French, CPHIMS, senior director of quality and patient safety initiatives at HIMSS. “One of the primary challenges is the lack of interoperability with local hospital systems. The lack of the information in real time can serve as a barrier for providers to conduct the correct follow up.”
