HIMSS applauds Senate passage of the 21st Century Cures Act. HIMSS believes this bipartisan, bicameral legislation will enhance the US’s role as a leader in biomedical innovation, advance public health and - ultimately - result in better health outcomes for patients.
The bill underscores that the “Path to Cures” must be built on a foundation of information, making the success of our nation’s health IT infrastructure critical to realizing the legislation’s goals. HIMSS thanks HELP Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA) for their leadership and thoughtful approach to engaging stakeholders throughout the Committee’s development of health IT policies which included months of hearings, working group meetings and outreach. Collaboration with the House Energy and Commerce Committee resulted in a final set of policies that aim to bolster health IT’s ability to enable advances in research and innovation.
We look forward to continuing to work with Congress to maintain the momentum around health IT and the new Administration as it begins implementing the many important provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act.
