Vermont Enacts Telemedicine Reimbursement Bill

On May 22, 2017, Governor Phil Scott (R.) of Vermont signed S.50 into law, which requires insurance companies to pay providers the same rates for telemedicine usage as an in-person visit.

It is important to note that this law will apply to Medicaid and all other health insurance policies. The Department of Vermont Health Access (VHA) was given the responsibility of ensuring that the treating clinician as well as the hosting facility are reimbursed for the services delivered, unless each entity is employed by the same organization.

The bill will go into effect on October 1, 2017. More detailed information is available online.
