HIMSS and the University of California-San Francisco, School of Pharmacy are collaborating their efforts to disseminate the pharmacy informatics curriculum -Partners in E - on a nationwide level. Partners in E is an innovative program of curriculum development for pharmacy students, that aims to better integrate the discipline of safety science into a health information technology (HIT)–enabled world.

ePrescribing is the use of electronic tools to prescribe drug prescriptions. ePrescribing tools can include both software programs, as well as hardware like personal computers, handheld and wireless devices, and touch screens. ePrescribing is one of the integral steps to achieving broad deployment of the EHR. Other issues related to this topic area include, but are not limited to, pharmacy automation, medication compliance, pharmacy databases, CPOE and adverse drug events (ADE).
