Join the HIMSS Interoperability & HIE Community as we examine how efficient integration and use of health information exchange (HIE) services has the potential to improve care quality, make care more efficient, and streamline administrative tasks. Our presenters will speak to these outcomes as it relates to the evolving and critical role of HIEs in the health response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
HEALTHeLINK Study: Two authors from a recent study, conducted by HEALTHeLINK in partnership with researchers at University of Connecticut and the Brookings Institution’s Center for Technology Innovation, will present their findings on how medical practices that integrate and utilize HIEs can decrease the number of emergency department (ED) visits and unplanned 30-day hospital readmission. In addition to this, they will also share updates on how their work supports COVID-19 efforts to protect the community and the public health during this time of uncertainty.
Indiana Health Information Exchange: Run by the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), the Notifiable Condition Detector (NCD) is a key technology that supports the detection and reporting of communicable disease cases to the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). IHIE is currently updating the NCD to include Coronavirus testing results in real-time reporting of case information to ISDH. To help with the display and interpretation of the data, the Regenstrief Institute and IHIE are working to quickly develop a dashboard, modeled after what the Regenstrief Institute created in 2009 during the H1N1 pandemic, to support public health surveillance efforts.
