Value and Science Driven Healthcare
|
|
By Laura J. Wood, DNP, MS, RN, SVP Patient Care
Services & Chief Nursing Officer, Boston Children’s Hospital
Over the past three decades, I have had the direct opportunity as a
nurse leader in both a clinical-provider and informatics industry
setting to respond to two key questions, “What does the Value of Health
IT mean to you and to your organization?” and “How can we get value out
of the EHR?”

My Definition of Value
|
|
By Cynthia Davis, RN, FACHE, CEO, CIC Advisory
After decades of work helping organizations improve healthcare
delivery, efficiency, physician alignment and patient engagement, my
definition of “value” goes right back to my earliest days as a bedside
nurse. For me, value means making things easier for patients and their
families.

Healthcare IT and the Promise and Curse of
Dimensionality
|
|
By Emily Hamilton, MDCM, FRCSC, FACOG, Senior Vice
President of Clinical Research, PeriGen
Assessing the relationship between a suspected agent and a particular
disease is a fundamental part of medicine. Treating causes of disease
is beneficial. When a relationship is merely one of association,
accordingly there is no therapeutic potential related to that
agent.

The Family Perspective: Getting the Value out of
Health IT
|
|
By Suma Rao-Gupta, MPH, Manager Learning &
Reference Services, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of
Chicago
Patients and families are in the unique position of being the ones who
have the largest personal stake in the healthcare equation. They have
the most to gain, or, the most to lose from the various interactions
they have with healthcare providers across the continuum of care.

Complete the HIMSS Mobile Survey
Since 2011, HIMSS Analytics has explored the use of mobile technology
to improve access to the information needed on a day-to-day basis in a
healthcare setting. The study was designed to collect information on an
array of items related to mobile device usage. Questions assess
organizations’ general use of mobile technology, access to patient
data, means for securing information, and the benefits and barriers
around the use of mobile technology. This year’s survey is built around
the six topics of the mHIMSS Roadmap:
New Care Models, Technology, ROI/Payment, Legal/Policy, Standards &
Interoperability, and Privacy & Security. Complete the survey
by Jan. 17, 2014.

linkedin DISCUSSION |
What health IT will gain traction and make an
impact on care delivery in 2014?
“Vision without execution is hallucination.” – a
fitting notion from Thomas Edison given the time of year where we all
promise to make improvements that, statistically speaking, only 8% of
us will honor. It was back in July that Senator Max Baucus (D-MT)
opened his remarks before the Senate Finance Committee with this very
sentiment in respect to the practicality of the Meaningful Use
adherence timelines.
