State

New Jersey Moves to Further Regulate Telehealth
The bill will enable clinicians to provide care remotely to patients in the state, establish appropriate patient-provider relationship via telehealth, and prevent state health plans and private plans that cover state employees from mandating an in-person visit before telehealth use.

New Nebraska Law Creates Mandatory Reporting of Controlled Substance Prescriptions in 2017
The bill will take full effect on January 1, 2017, and is designed to address the over-prescribing of prescription drugs in Nebraska and help physicians and prescribers control and monitor controlled substance prescriptions.

Industry Stakeholders Applaud House Report Language on Patient Matching
Inaccurate patient identification and errors in patient matching can lead to serious medical mistakes and are major barriers to improving the quality and efficiency of care across the continuum. House appropriators highlighted this challenge in report language accompanying the Fiscal 2017 Labor-HHS Appropriations Bill, labelling the "lack of a consistent patient data matching strategy" as one of the "most significant challenges" to safe and secure electronic health information exchange.

"Who's Minding the Store" When It Comes to Healthcare Cybersecurity?
HIMSS' Lee Kim provides insights on the recent Government Accountability Office report focused on the magnitude of cybersecurity breaches in the healthcare sector, with over 113 million health records breached in 2015.  The GAO report calls on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to issue more guidance to help improve the cybersecurity posture within the healthcare sector and to ensure that its guidance is in alignment with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
