'Physicians of the Future' Benefit from the TIGER Virtual Learning Environment
As medical students and HIMSS interns, it was puzzling to us why it was difficult to find a crossroads between medical education and health information technology (HIT). When we came to HIMSS there was instant information overload and a huge learning curve. Nonetheless, we quickly saw the value, relevance, and interest in HIT. Seeing the potential and practice of clinical decision support, health information exchange, population health management and telehealth we quickly became excited to be "physicians of the future." However, we knew after completing a year of medical school that it was going to take a lot to learn and teach the physicians of tomorrow - and that is where the beauty of the TIGER (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) Initiative comes in.
