These behavioral, socioeconomic and environmental factors in a patient’s life are shown to have more impact than medical treatment and genetics combined. Dr. Hilary Hatch is a clinical psychologist and VP of Clinical Engagement with Phreesia, developers of patient intake software. She talks about the need for direct patient engagement as a tool for providers to understand motivations, needs and barriers to health in order to create personalized treatment plans.

Addressing Effects of Toxic Stress in Childhood
“The child may not remember, but the body remembers.” Research shows the connection between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and lifelong health and social problems. The new documentary “Resilience” tells the story of how physicians and researchers have come to understand, treat, and prevent toxic stress that wreaks havoc on the brains and bodies of children. One of the trailblazing voices in the science and treatment to protect and heal children is Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. After screening the film at HIMSS Innovation & Conference Center in Cleveland, she joined a panel of local experts to discuss challenges and solutions.
