Every year CHIME and HIMSS collaboratively present one of our industry's most prestigious awards to a member of CHIME and HIMSS: the CHIME-HIMSS John E. Gall Jr. CIO of the Year Award. We are now accepting nominations for the award and we encourage you to nominate a colleague or apply yourself.

The CHIME-HIMSS John E. Gall Jr. CIO of the Year Award recognizes healthcare IT executives who have made significant contributions to their organizations and demonstrated innovative leadership. It is named in honor of John E. Gall Jr., whose pioneering work in healthcare IT at El Camino Hospital in the 1960s paved the way for our industry. You must be a member of both CHIME and HIMSS and have a minimum of five years of membership to be eligible. The recipient is selected jointly by CHIME and HIMSS boards, and is formally recognized at our spring forum. You can find additional information and an application form here.

U.S. National Health IT Week, October 8-12, is held across the country with in person events and virtual initiatives.. Catch up on how your organization can further your engagement by listening to the recent Partner Engagement Webinar, and note the following opportunities:

  • Read and share #IHeartHIT Stories. Patients, caregivers, and family members submit their stories which capture the human side of healthcare IT, and share challenges and opportunities of our current health system.
  • Host a National Health IT Week event. Events can include a range of activities, including, face-to-face, virtual, and internal staff recognition. HIMSS will share those events open to the public via communications and posting on the calendar of events.

As blockchain technology grows within the healthcare setting, the industry has seen numerous initiatives arise to apply blockchain technology to healthcare use cases. What we also have seen is the growth of another male-dominated industry, coined by the industry as the “blockchain bros”. In this webinar, we will hear from three women who have established themselves as influential thought-leaders amongst their male colleagues working with blockchain technology. Join us to learn about their journey through this industry and hear how their work is influencing blockchain technology’s positive impact on healthcare.

This session will:

  • Share experiences that lead to a blockchain career in the healthcare setting.
  • Discuss the challenges of breaking into a male-dominated field.
  • Describe how their areas of focus are improving the delivery of care.

HIMSS18 Success Stories

HIMSS asked attendees from the HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition in 2018 to share the personal and professional successes that stemmed from attending conference – from challenges faced to changes made. Our most recent success story comes from a HIMSS member who, following discussions with other healthcare leaders at HIMSS18, determined we need to reimagine the role and function of clinical communications in today’s care delivery.
