FDA Releases New Draft Guidance for Use of EHR Data in Clinical Investigations
On Monday, May 15, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued draft guidance on the use of electronic health record (EHR) data in clinical investigations to clarify FDA's expectations when EHRs are used as a source of data. FDA will accept comments and suggestions regarding the draft guidance through July 18, 2016.

The Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) proposed rule represents a fundamental change in the way health care is paid for and is aimed at establishing the infrastructure for value-based reimbursement. These ten-minute, special report STEPS to Value episodes will provide high-level overviews for the key areas of the proposed rule and information on how you can participate in the HIMSS commenting process.

Look to HIMSS for Resources on the New MACRA Proposed Rule
With the release of the proposed rule on implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), HIMSS has created a suite of resources to help the community understand the new rules.  More details are available on the HIMSS MACRA Resource Center on the Quality Payment Program (QPP), Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), and alternative payment models (APMs).  Included there is an executive summary as well as fact sheets on specific provisions in the proposed rule.

Become a member of the HIE Community
The HIE Community serves as the central convening point for HIE professionals to share ideas, make connections, learn best practices and leverage opportunities in a collaborative virtual community.  Each quarter we host a 90 minute HIE Community Roundtable open to all HIMSS members that choose to be a part of the HIMSS Community. HIMSS members can join the community by updating their HIMSS Participations or by sending an e-mail to requesting to join.

Our Annual Conference Education Committee (ACEC), consisting of 12 appointed volunteers from all membership constituencies, carefully designs the program to meet the needs of our audience.
