Download TIGER's NEW Informatics Definitions Document

In the fall of 2015, TIGER Committee members began compiling interprofessional informatics definitions. The purpose of creating this document was to collaboratively define and document core health informatics terminology in an effort to provide context to the global TIGER interprofessional, interdisciplinary community for consideration when terms are referred to on the TIGER’s main landing page on HIMSS.org, in official documents, and within the TIGER Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). We acknowledge that as the field of informatics continues to grow and change so will the terms defined within this resource. Our intention is for this resource to serve as a helpful tool for those learning about informatics and informatics competencies.

Spotlight on New Zealand's Nursing Informatics Competencies

TIGER International Committee member, Karen Day, RN, RM, MA, PhD, FACHI, Senior Lecturer, Health Informatics at the University of Auckland, wrote a blog entry in follow-up to the TIGER VLE webinar, Health Informatics Competencies in New Zealand: A Review, held on July 9th. In 2015, the TIGER International Committee, with representation from 21 countries, began comprehensive activities to compile recommended core international informatics competencies reflective of many countries, scientific societies, and research projects known as the TIGER International Competency Synthesis Project. In collaboration with TIGER International Committee member and colleague, Michelle Honey, RN, PhD, FCNA, Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing at the University of Auckland, and Day developed a case study focused on nursing informatics competencies in the New Zealand context, specifically for newly qualified nurses. What health informatics competencies should newly qualified nurses have? Click here to read the fully blog entry and access the VLE webinar recording.

Engage, Empower, and Collaborate with Women in Health IT

HIMSS has launched the Women in Health IT Roundtable, an opportunity for year-round engagement via education and networking.  As part of a robust strategy, Healthcare IT News launched a dedicated section of the website - "a room of one's own," so to speak - exclusively focused on news, career advice, profiles, success stories and recognition of women in health IT and the issues that are most pressing.  In addition, a Women in Health IT newsletter is being launched.

The results of a 2015 HIMSS survey of 20,000 women in health IT on workplace, job satisfaction, recognition and opportunities to move up - coupled with another on salaries for women in this field compared with compensation for men - spoke clearly to HIMSS Executive Vice President Carla Smith.  Both surveys revealed pressing needs for resources and community for women in health IT. Carla Smith will be leading the first in the series of bimonthly webinars for the Women in Health IT Roundtable on August 25
